Farm: „Vilkų Kitokie sūriai“ (“Cheese with a Difference from Vilkai”) is a small family run farm in hundred-year-old farmstead in the national park of Zemaitija (Semogitia). The presence of rare plants and animals in this farm has become possible because of the long-term and natural development of the environment. Extensive farming and agricultural environment protection contributes to the preservation of this natural environment. The application of the beneficial agricultural principles and the preservation of nature are also motivated by the farm’s membership in the non-formal organization “Farms with the Difference” (www.kitoksukis.lt).
For the environmental reasons farming is mainly done by hand or using small farming machines, livestock consists of animals which are naturally adjusted to the limited human impact on their existence. Our basic principles: to grow and produce something that gives us joy; extensive farming and unity with the environment – a foundation for abundance and honest fullness; we choose Preservation over consumption. Our values are the ability to preserve nature and to live in harmony with it.
In the farm we produce fresh, matured, blue cheese, natural yoghurt, ghee from home-grown cows’ milk. Most of our cheeses are suitable for the enthusiasts of raw foodism, yoghurt – for the lacto vegetarians.
The history of the farm is closely interconnected with the phenomenon of book smuggling which in 2004 UNESCO characterized as a unique and unprecedented phenomenon in the world. In oder to honour this phenomenon we organize tours for the groups of 10-20 people with the cheese tasting (price 10 EUR/person, duration – 2 hours ).
