To see and hear the birds living and breeding in Lake Ilgis, you need to go to a small house in the Laumalenkos village on the shore of Lake Ilgis. It is a great place to watch the smew (Mergellus albellus), the common merganser (Mergus merganser), the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), the western osprey (Pandion haliaetus), the western marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus), the common buzzard (Buteo buteo), the Eurasian bittern or great bittern (Botaurus stellaris), the tufted duck (Aythya fuligula), the grey heron (Ardea cinerea), the great egret (Ardea alba), the great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus), the whooper swan (Cygnus cygnus), the mute swan (Cygnus olor) and many other birds.
